【篇一】Unit9 Lesson1
On Wednesday evening, we went to the Town Hall.
It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered under the Town Hall clock.
It would strike twelve in twenty minutes' time.
Fifteen minutes passed and then, at five to twelve, the clock stopped.
The big minute hand did not move.
We waited and waited, but nothing happened.
Suddenly someone shouted, 'It's two minutes past twelve! The clock has stopped!'
I looked at my watch. It was true.
The big clock refused to welcome the New Year.
At that moment, everybody began to laugh and sing.

星期三的晚上，我们去了市政厅。
那是一年的最后一天，一大群人聚集在市政厅的大钟下面。
再过20分钟，大钟将敲响12下。
15分钟过去了，而就在11点55分时，大钟停了。
那根巨大的分针不动了。
我们等啊等啊，可情况没有变化。
突然有人喊道：“已经12点零2分了！那钟已经停了！”
我看了一下我的手表。果真如此。
大钟拒绝迎接新年。
此时，大家已经笑了起来，同时唱起了歌。
【篇三】Unit9 Lesson2
On a Friday evening in May last year, Mr. Strange took off his shoes at the back door of his house and left them there.
He never saw them again.
A few days later, one of his neighbours did the same thing, and the same thing happened.
In the morning, the shoes had disappeared.
'Who could want my dirty old gardening shoes?' she asked.
That was just the beginning.
Soon, everyone in the village was talking about the shoe thief.
'Everybody has always left their shoes at the back door,' they said.
'And now, everybody in the village has lost at least one pair of shoes.'
A few months later, two small boys were playing in the woods,
and they found a pair of shoes.
'Look at those shoes!' one of them said.
'Those shoes aren't old! Why would anybody leave them here?'
A moment later, they found the answer.
They found a foxes' den.
Next to the den, there was a mountain of shoes!
There were a hundred and twenty paris of shoes there.
The shoe thief was a vixen with a passion for shoes!

去年五月的一个星期五的晚上，斯特兰奇先生在他的房子后 门脱下鞋子，把它们留在了那里。
他再也没有见到鞋子。
几天后，他的一个邻居做了同样的事情，鞋子也丢了。
早上，鞋子不见了。
“谁会想要我那脏脏的旧园艺鞋？”她问。

很快，村里的每个人都在谈论那个偷鞋贼。
“每个人总是把鞋子放在后 门。”他们说。
“现在，村里每个人都至少丢了一双鞋。”
几个月后，两个小男孩在树林里玩耍，
他们找到了一双鞋。
“看看这些鞋子！”其中一个说。
“这些鞋子不旧！为什么有人要把他们留在这里？”
过了一会儿，他们找到了答案。
他们发现了一只狐狸的巢*。
在巢*的旁边，有一座鞋子堆成的小山！
那里有一百二十双鞋。
